Monthly issuance of mortgage-backed securities fell at Freddie Mac, grew at Ginnie Mae and flourished at Fannie Mae.
Issuance at Fannie skyrocketed to $127.0 billion during May, according to data reported by eMBS. Fannie’s volume rose from just $54.9 billion in April and $57.8 billion a year earlier.
So far this year, Fannie issuances total $331.9 billion.
Over at McLean, Va.-based Freddie, volume eased to $43.6 billion from April’s $46.4 billion but was higher than $40.7 billion in May 2008.
Freddie’s year-to-date volume was $193.2 billion.
Ginnie issuances climbed to $38.2 billion last month from the prior month’s $34.3 billion. Ginnie issued just $20.6 billion in May 2008.
From January through May, Ginnie issued $159.9 billion.
