Distressed investing is the topic being discussed at a big share of mortgage-related conferences. Upcoming events include a servicing conference, a commercial mortgage show and a meeting that will address legislation and regulation.
Real estate economic conditions and accompanying risks will be the focus of two conferences sponsored by Information Management Network.
At IMN's Eighth Annual Winter Forum on Real Estate Opportunity & Private Fund Investing, to be held from Jan. 12 to 14 in Laguna Beach, Calif., officials from such banking and investment firms as JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley and Prudential Real Estate Investors as well as Sidley Austin LLC and other law firms will serve on panels reviewing and discussing the overall market and such factors as investment strategies and opportunities and dealing with underwater properties.
Then from Feb. 16 to17, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., IMN will hold its Third Annual Bank & Special Asset Forum on Distressed Real Estate. Workouts, information shortages, regulations, tax impacts, bankruptcy, foreclosure, litigation, loan types, servicing and other topics will be discussed by bankers and others.
MISMO will hold its January 2011 Trimester Meeting from Jan. 24 to 28 in Jacksonville, Fla. In addition to sessions on the legislative and regulatory landscape and on the economic outlook for 2011, sessions also will cover mortgage and title insurance, reverse mortgages e-mortgages, and credit reporting, among other topics.
Turnaround Management Association will hold its 2011 Distressed Investing Conference from Jan. 26 to 28 in Las Vegas. Topics will include CMBS/MBS structured finance, REMICs, and the Dodd-Frank Act and Wall Street Reform. Speakers include academics, attorneys and investors.
CREF 11, the Mortgage Bankers Association's Commercial Real Estate Finance/Multifamily Housing Convention & Expo, will take place from Feb. 6 to 9 in San Diego. The largest annual gathering of commercial/multifamily finance professionals, the event will present sessions on the state of the industry and the outlook for its future, legislative and regulatory developments, finance sources, servicing practices and distressed loans and properties.
From Feb. 22 to 25, the MBA will hold its National Mortgage Servicing Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas. Included will be updates specific FHA, VA, RHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, regulations and general the State of the Economy plus sessions dealing with such topics as bankruptcy, fraud, foreclosure and its alternatives, REO management, vendor management and MI claims.
MBA held its 97th Annual Convention & Expo in Atlanta last Oct. 24 to 27. Mortgage Daily Founder and Publisher Sam Garcia attended and reported back that, despite the foreclosure affidavit crisis, the mood was upbeat, networking was strong and business was happening.
The American Bankers Association held its annual convention from Oct. 17 to 20 in Boston with some emphasis on the financial crisis and emerging risks and opportunities. And the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association held its annual convention in New Orleans from Nov. 3 to 5.
RESPRO hosted, for the second year, its RESPA Regulatory Compliance Seminars on Nov. 15 in Los Angeles and Nov. 17 in Chicago.
For those trying to rescue themselves from the current real estate crisis -- whether investor, lender, servicer, or borrower -- numerous conferences were held in October and November.
Source Media's Financial Services Collections & Credit Risk Conference was held from Oct. 24 to 26 in Las Vegas and also in Las Vegas, from Nov. 8 to 10, the Allterra Group held its eleventh Valuation Expo.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Federal Reserve System held a two-day symposium on Oct. 25 and 26 in Arlington, Va., on mortgages and the future of housing finance.
And the New York law firm of Grais & Ellsworth, which represents two Federal Home Loan Banks that have filed lawsuits over MBS they own, held a half-day conference on Oct. 27 at its offices that briefed investors on "'robo-signers' and other servicing failures."
SRI in the Rockies held its 21st Annual Sustainable and Responsible Investment Industry Conference, Responsible Investing in a Changing Financial Landscape, From Nov. 18 to 21 in San Antonio. The Beard Group and Renaissance American Management held their 17th Annual Conference on Distressed Investing on Nov. 29 in New York. |
