While compliance continues to be a key topic of discussion at mortgage industry events, some conferences are tackling business plans for loan originations, technology-related issues and client development. September is shaping up to be a busy month, with nearly three dozen events scheduled so far.
This Thursday, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research is hosting the event, Is Dodd-Frank Regulation Cutting Off Mortgage Credit?, at its offices at 1150 Seventeenth Street, NW, in Washington, D.C.
On Aug. 2, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will host a workshop at the Embassy Suites in Peoria, Ill., for directors of nationally chartered community banks and federal savings associations. The $65 session will cover credit risk.
The same workshop is being held by the OCC at the Westin Waltham in Boston on July 26 and at the Hyatt Regency in Milwaukee on Sept. 8.
More than 250 people are expected to attend the American Bankruptcy Institute's Seventh Annual Mid-Atlantic Bankruptcy Workshop from Aug. 4 through Aug. 6 at the Hotel Hershey in Hershey, Pa. Bankruptcy judges and leading practitioners from the Third and Fourth U.S. Judicial Circuits will head the faculty.
The Omni Interlocken Resort in Denver is the site of MISMO's September 2011 Trimester Meeting. The event runs from Sept. 12 until Sept. 16 and costs $495 for non-subscribers and $195 for subscribers. Educational sessions will be held about understanding the MISMO Version 3 specifications.
From Sept. 13 through Sept. 15, the Mortgage Bankers Association is holding its Quality Assurance and Residential Underwriting Conference 2011 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. The event will reportedly focus on the most effective ways to improve business processes.
The American Bankruptcy Institute plans to hold its 31st Annual Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute conference on Sept. 16 at the Kansas City Marriott Downtown in Kansas City, Mo. Bankruptcy judges will be among the panelists.
The loan officer compensation rule will be a topic of discussion at the Mortgage Regulatory Forum to be held in the nation's capitol on Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 at the Washington Marriott. The event, hosted by Source Media, will feature mortgage compliance expert and Patton Boggs LLP Partner Richard Andreano Jr. A $200 discount is given for registration completed by July 22.
The big event for the mortgage industry is the annual conference hosted by MBA. This year's shin dig, MBA's 98th Annual Convention & Expo 2011, is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago from Oct. 9 to Oct. 12. The theme of the conference is "Driving Change for Our Industry," and topics to be covered include risk retention, qualified residential mortgages and servicing standards.
In addition to key MBA personnel, scheduled speakers include former advisor to President Barack Obama David Axelrod and former Florida governor Jeb Bush. Also on the agenda are Fannie Mae Chief Executive Officer Michael Williams and Freddie Mac CEO Ed Haldeman. Entertainment for the event will be provided by the band Chicago.
From Nov. 16 until Nov. 18, Mortgage Success Source is holding its Mastery Business Plan event at the Green Valley Ranch Hotel and Spa in Las Vegas. More than a thousand "top-producing" loan originators are expected to attend the event. Mortgage Success Source CEO David Fournier noted in a statement the gathering is "the only live event for mortgage industry professionals that lets attendees walk away with a customized business plan."
At the NAMB/West Loan Originator Conference being held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5, the National Association of Mortgage Brokers is giving attendees a passport for the exhibit hall on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural Five Star MPact being held from Dec. 4 to Dec. 6 at the new Dallas Omni. Mortgage production and servicing professionals are being targeted for the event. Registration costs $995, though subscribers pay just $895.
Over 350 people attended Mortgagebot LLC's ninth annual Partner Conference in May at the Frontier Airlines Convention Center in Milwaukee.
Attendance at DataTrac Inc.'s annual client conference at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas from June 8 to June 10 reached nearly 120. The count was a 20 percent improvement over the attendance achieved at the 2010 event.
