Prominent issues being discussed at upcoming mortgage and real estate industry conferences include compliance, purchase and refinance markets, and the future of the economy and how it affects real estate finance. The impact of the presidential election will also be on some agendas.

Ellie Mae's Encompass EXPERIENCE 2012 National User Summit began on Sept. 30 at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas and concludes today. The invitation-only event for current Encompass360 and DataTrac clients covered product information, compliance, risk analysis, secondary markets and more.

Mortgage Bankers Association President and Chief Executive Officer and former Federal Housing Commissioner David H. Stevens is among the scheduled keynote speakers. Also featured among those giving keynote addresses are political columnist and commentator Mark Shields and CNBC political analyst Ron Insana.

Other speakers at Ellie's event include Fannie Mae's Chief Economist Doug Duncan, CoreLogic's Chief Economist Mark Fleming and Peter Navarro, author and economics professor at the Paul Merage School of Business at the University of California.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is participating in a series of Investor Fraud Summits sponsored by the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. One summit is being held on Oct. 10 at the Denver campus of the University of Colorado, and another is being held on Oct. 12 at Miami Dade College. A summit was held on Monday at the University of Connecticut.

PrimeSource Mortgage Inc. announced that Rick Roque, senior vice president of growth & strategy, will be a featured speaker at the Sales Mastery Conference from Oct. 10 through Oct.13 in Palm Desert, Calif.

In addition, PrimeSource Senior Vice President of Compliance Sam Morelli was scheduled to lead a panel of experts to review and discuss current and proposed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau guidelines at The Mortgage Bankers Association Regulatory Compliance Conference which began on Sept. 29 and runs through Oct. 2 in Washington, D.C.

PrimeLending announced that it is a corporate sponsor for the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals' national convention from Oct. 7 until Oct. 9. President Clinton is the keynote speaker at the event, which is being held at the JW Marriott La Live in Los Angeles.

The National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association's Reverse Mortgage Roundup keynote speakers and presenters have been chosen for the 2012 Annual Meeting & Expo scheduled to run from Oct. 15 until Oct. 17 in San Antonio, Texas, at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk Hotel. FHA Commissioner Carol Galante, former senator Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) and former White House economist Jared Bernstein are scheduled to take the stage at the event. Other featured speakers include Ginnie Mae president Ted Tozer, HUD deputy assistant secretary Charles Coulter and Texas Tech financial planning researcher John Salter.

The NRMLA says the event will bring an opportunity to learn from experts and "from each other, and plan for the most successful path forward as we provide the highest level of service to America's seniors."

On Nov. 26, the 19th Annual Distressed Investing Conference is being held at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in New York. Sessions will cover how to maximize profits in the distressed debt market.

The American Bankruptcy Institute's 24th Annual Winter Leadership Conference is being held at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa in Tucson, Ariz., from Nov. 29 until Dec. 1. The event will highlight the role of hedge funds in restructurings, the effect of the national mortgage settlement and other key bankruptcy issues. Keynote speaker, election analyst and author Larry Sabato is set to discuss the impact of the presidential election. Comedian and singer Jeff Tracta will entertain at the final night's dinner.

The featured speaker chosen for the NAMB National conference is William Matthews, president of the national Mortgage Licensing System and executive vice president of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors. The conference begins on Dec. 7 and concludes on Dec. 10.

The MBA along with several other real estate associations announced they are hosting the National Short Sale and REO Summit from Feb. 21 through Feb. 23, 2013, at the Gaylord Texan Hotel and Convention Center. The summit will offer networking opportunities and business strategizing topics, attendees will get short sale training, learn about foreclosure trends, neighborhood stabilization efforts, and REO to rental. Cost to attend for members is $750, non-members $995.

The Marriott Fisherman's Wharf is the location of the Residential Mortgage Litigation & Regulatory Enforcement event being hosted by the American Conference Institute from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2013. On the docket are officials from the CFPB, Federal Trade Commission and Office of Inspector General Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The REO summit is being held just after MBA's National Mortgage Servicing Conference & Expo, which runs from Feb. 19 through Feb. 22 at the same venue.

CoreLogic held its fifth Mortgage Fraud Consortium and first Valuation Consortium meeting last month in Chicago. The private event covered industry trends and solutions in fraud and valuations and featured keynote speakers Amy Heinz, Fannie Mae director of the mortgage fraud program, and Dr. Alfred Pollard, chief general counsel for the Federal Housing Finance Agency. Featured presenters included members of the FBI's Chicago-based Bank Fraud Squad, Special Agent Paul Palumbo and Intelligence Analyst Jay Rizzo, Richard L. Borges, president-elect of the Appraisal Institute and Don Kelly, executive director of the Real Estate Valuation Advocacy Association.

The MISMO Property & Valuation Services Workgroup met last month in Arlington, Va., to address current product features and data standardization efforts. Liz Green, chairperson of Property & Valuation moderated the roundtable on the topic of property identification.

The Real Estate Investment Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Silicon Valley was also held last month. The event sponsored by California bridge lender Lone Oak and others featured as panelists Lone Oak vice president Stephan Kachani, Fremont Bank's Ron Larussa, and Scot Cunningham from B of I Federal Bank as panelists covering topics affecting the capital markets.
