Mortgage Bankers Traveling to Atlanta

Mortgage-related conferences and events

Oct. 9, 2010

The mortgage industry's premier annual conference kicks off in two weeks in Atlanta. Other upcoming industry events are expected to address the foreclosure affidavit crisis, hard-money lending and distressed investing -- among other topics.

Members of the American Bankers Association and the American Bar Association will converge at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., from Oct. 17 to Oct. 19 for their 22nd annual Money Laundering Enforcement Conference. Nearly 800 attendees -- including law enforcement, attorneys and bankers -- will hear a keynote address delivered by Financial Crimes Enforcement Network Director James H. Freis.

On Oct. 21, Mortgage Daily plans to host a Webinar about the foreclosure affidavit crisis. The event is still in the planning stages, but experts from a Washington, D.C.-based law firm are expected to present. Details about the event will be available shortly on Mortgage Daily's Mortgage Webinar page.

The 97th Annual Convention & Expo hosted by the Mortgage Bankers Association in Atlanta from Oct. 24 to Oct. 27 will include U.S. Bank Home Mortgage President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel A. Arrigoni and Quicken CEO William C. Emerson among panelists at the opening general session.

Nearly 2,000 attendees are expected to make their way to the venue, the Georgia World Congress Center, while 120 exhibitors are expected to be touting their wares.

James Carville, an outspoken Democrat who helped get Bill Clinton elected, will entertain the crowd with wife and Bush administration insider Mary Matalin.

Speakers scheduled for the conference include Federal Housing Commissioner David H. Stevens, Fannie Mae CEO Michael J. Williams and Freddie Mac CEO Charles E. Haldeman Jr.

Among the sessions at MBA's convention are The Future of the Independent Mortgage Banker, RESPA Changes and Foreclosure Mediation - Issues and Solutions. The closing general session will feature MBA's and Fannie's chief economists as well as former Federal Reserve Board governor Lyle Gramley. The panelists will discuss current economic challenges and industry implications.
