The hundred-year anniversary of the mortgage industry's preeminent event is being hosted in the nation's capitol and will feature a former U.S. president. Several other upcoming events will address a myriad of new rules and regulations.

On Sunday, the Mortgage Bankers Association kicks off its 100th Annual Convention & Expo at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.. The event, which is considered by many to be the premier mortgage industry conference, runs until Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Taking center stage at the event is President George W. Bush. His brother, former Florida governor John "Jeb" Bush, will join him.

Other notable speakers include Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray, the "father" of mortgage-backed securities Lewis S Ranieri and Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan.

A concert featuring the rhythm and blues band Earth Wind and Fire is being held on Tuesday evening.

Updates from the CFPB and the Federal Housing Finance Agency will be presented on Monday by Cordray and FHFA Director Edward DeMarco.

Other numerous sessions will cover Qualified Mortgages, government securitizations and success strategies for mortgage servicing rights, among other topics.

Risk Assessment for Directors and Compliance Risk: What Directors Need to Know will be held on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30 at the Skirvin Hilton Hotel in Oklahoma City. Both $99 events are being hosted by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Online registration is limited.

The same pair of OCC workshops will take place on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 at the Peabody Little Rock in Little Rock, Ark.

In Texas, the Holiday Inn San Antonio - Riverwalk is the location of two
OCC workshops, Compliance Risk: What Directors Need to Know and Credit Risk: A Director's Focus, on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.

Significant changes to the Federal Housing Administration's home-equity conversion mortgage program will be discussed at the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association's 15th Annual Meeting & Expo - New Music: Changing the Reverse Mortgage Conversation from Nov. 4 until Nov. 6. The convention is being held at The Roosevelt New Orleans. Registration costs between $800 and $1,275 depending on NRMLA membership status and the date purchased.

Risky Times for Secured Lenders and Servicers being hosted by the American Bankruptcy Institute features the session, CFPB's Mortgage Servicing Rules and the Bankruptcy Law. It's being held on Nov. 6 at the ABI Headquarters Conference Center in Alexandria, Va., and costs $125 for all sessions.

MBA is hosting its Accounting and Financial Management Conference 2013 from Nov. 19 through Nov. 21 at the Boca Raton Hotel in Boca Raton, Fla. The trade group calls the event "a one-stop shop for the accounting, regulatory and finance tactics lenders need in this transitional environment." The event costs between $650 and $1,395 depending on membership status, government status and registration date.

On Nov. 20, the Urban Institute and CoreLogic Inc. are jointly hosting Data, Demand, and Demographics: A Symposium on Housing Finance at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The meeting -- which will address a diverse range of future housing market issues and opportunities confronting consumers, businesses and policy makers -- is free.

On Nov. 21 during the Mortgage Servicing Compliance conference at the Washington Plaza Hotel, in Washington, D.C., Morningstar Credit Ratings LLC Senior Vice President Richard W. Koch will discuss restrictions on dual tracking and new servicer requirements related to loss mitigation and loan modifications. The $2,295 event is being hosted by the American Conference Institute.

MBA President and Chief Executive Officer David Stevens was one of two 2013 recipients of the Founders' Award presented by the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals at the NAHREP 2013 National Convention & Latin Music Festival last month. New American Funding said it was a silver sponsor of the event.

Sam Garcia founded Mortgage Daily in 1998 and became its full-time publisher in 2000. Prior to his news career he worked in mortgage lending for two decades.
