Technology is Top Topic at Industry Events

Technology issues are being tackled at a trio of financial services conferences, while secondary marketing is the topic of discussion at an upcoming Texas event. Two other recent events covered compliance issues and commercial mortgages. Nearly 40 mortgage-related events are being held from November through January.
Mortgage Daily's calendar of mortgage- and bank-related conferences, meetings and seminars includes 28 events this month. Another 11 events are scheduled in December and January.

The Citi 2011 Financial Technology Conference is being held this week in Boston.
The 13th Annual Mortgage Technology Conference is being hosted by Source Media from Nov. 14 through Nov. 16. The event is being held at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami and costs $795 for lenders and $1,095 for non-lenders.
Among the recommended sessions at the technology conference is Consumer-Facing Mobile Mortgage Technology: When, Why and How.
The Marriott Woodlands Waterway Hotel and Convention Center is the site of the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association's annual Southern Secondary Market Conference. The event is being held next year on Jan. 18 and Jan. 19. Speakers include Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer, PennyMac's Doug Jones and Bank of Manhattan's Paul Jacobs.
Topics to be covered at the TMBA event include servicing retention, risk management and repurchase demands. The convention will also include a warehouse lenders tabletop session with several companies available to discuss warehousing demands in 2012.
Ellie Mae held its Encompass360 Connex 2011 user group event on Nov. 2 at the Georgetown University Hotel & Conference Center in Washington, D.C. The invitation-only event addressed a number of issued tied to the widely used loan origination system.
The New Jersey Apartment Summit was held on Nov. 2 in Summit, N.J. The 300 attendees specialize in multifamily assets, or have an interest acquiring or servicing apartment buildings. Regional and national multifamily developers and investors were featured as speakers.
In Miami, The Real Estate Services Providers Council held a business regulatory seminar on Nov. 1. Another seminar was held in Chicago on Nov. 3.
Issues covered at the regulatory seminars included the impact of the Dodd-Frank act, upcoming RESPA rulemaking and enforcement and the impact to affiliated businesses from developments at the Federal Housing Administration. A session was also held about pending class action lawsuits on affiliated businesses.
The American Bankers Association held its annual convention from Oct. 23 through Oct. 26 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Moody's Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi was a featured speaker, as were former Federal Reserve Board member Mark Olson and former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw.
ABA members paid $1,195 for the event, while non-members paid $1,795.
On Oct. 11, political consultant David Axelrod and former Florida governor Jeb Bush headlined a point-counterpoint discussion at the Mortgage Bankers Association's 98th Annual Convention & Expo in Chicago. The event was marred by Occupy Chicago protestors, though worries about violence never came to fruition.
The ABA Marketing Conference was hosted by the American Bankers Association at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront from Sept. 18 through Sept. 20. Industry experts spoke about current banking challenges and how marketing should be front and center of all strategic business initiatives.
BAFT-IFSA, a global financial services association for international transaction banking, held its third Global Councils Forum on Sept. 19 in Toronto. More than 100 banking executives from around the world met to discuss the challenges facing the global transaction banking industry.
