Mortgage jobs were on the rise in November.
The number of people working in mortgage-related positions totaled 468,800, an increase of 4,300 from October's revised figure, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. In November 2003, the total was lower at 444,700.
The bureau, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, reports employment numbers about 30 days following the end of each month.
The latest total consisted of 339,000 employees in real estate credit and 129,800 mortgage and nonmortgage loan brokers, according to the report.
Fueling some of the growth in mortgage employment are job additions at companies such as Countrywide, National Real Estate Processing Services and Ameriquest.
The unemployment rate in December was unchanged at 5.4%, or 8.0 million people, the bureau said.
