More than 7,000 mortgage related jobs were added in February, according to a closely watched report from the government.
About 497,600 people were working in the mortgage industry during February, according to today's employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, up from the revised 490,300 reported for January. February's total is about 10% better than the revised number for last year.
February mortgage employment consisted of 372,500 "Real estate credit" jobs and 125,100 "Mortgage and nonmortgage loan brokers."
Market traders are digesting a reported 110,000 nonfarm payroll employment increase included in today's report. MarketWatch had pegged the gain at 221,000 jobs.
The Bureau, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, reported the unemployment rate for March was 5.2% -- or 7.7 million out-of-work Americans.
