Mortgage jobs resumed a positive growth trend, with the government's latest numbers reflecting a nearly 10% jump during August for the sector.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the number of people working in mortgage-related positions totaled 459,700 in August, marking an increase of 4,000 from July's revised figure. The latest total is also higher than 457,300 a year ago.
Mortgage employment had increased for five consecutive months -- a trend that was reversed in July.
The bureau, which is a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, reports employment numbers about 30 days following the end of each month.
Real Estate Credit accounted for 329,900 of the mortgage industry number while 129,800 mortgage and nonmortgage loan brokers of made up the rest, according to the report.
The unemployment rate in September was reported at 5.4%, or 8.0 million people, the bureau announced, unchanged from the previous month.
