Jobs in real estate finance held their ground during the latest month.
Mortgage jobs totaled 502,000 in August, 200 more than the prior month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said today. A year ago, jobs totaled 496,600.
Real estate credit jobs comprised 358,400 of August's mortgage employment, and the rest consisted of mortgage and nonmortgage brokers, according to the bureau's data.
Some of the fuel for the latest boost was supplied by IndyMac Bank and CitiMortgage -- both of which have recently been expanding their rosters.
Total nonfarm payroll employment held steady in September, with 51,000 jobs added during the month, and the unemployment rate edged down to 4.6 percent, the U.S. Department of Labor unit reported.
