Mortgage servicers lifted the number of active modifications that were processed through the Making Home Affordable program. While Ocwen Loan Servicing had the biggest increase, its gains were offset by losses at an affiliate.
As of Feb. 28, there were 862,636 active permanent modifications that were processed for the Home Affordable Modification Program.
The total was up from January, when there were 856,154 active permanent HAMP modifications.
The Obama administration delivered the statistics Friday.
The gain of 6,482 between January and February was bigger than the increase of 5,019 a month earlier but well short of the 13,836 gain in February 2012.
The number of active permanent modifications at Ocwen increased by 3,537 from January — more than any other servicer.
But Ocwen’s gains were mostly offset by activity at Homeward Residential Inc., which was acquired by Ocwen Financial Corp. in December. Homeward saw its active permanent modification count fall by 2,719 in February.
Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.’s, active HAMP portfolio climb by 1,845 from January, the second-most of any servicer.
After that was the 1,604 gain at JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.; an increase of 1,551 at Bank of America, N.A.; and a 370 rise at CitiMortgage Inc.
At GMAC Mortgage LLC, active HAMPs plummeted 12,183 to 30,396 as of the end of February.
