The latest housing report from the Obama administration indicates that the number of active federally subsidized loan modifications increased by more on a monthly basis than it had in over a year.
The Making Home Affordable Program Performance Report Through August 2013 indicated that 905,663 permanent modifications processed through the Home Affordable Modification Program were active.
That was an increase of 12,766 active permanent HAMPs compared to July and the biggest increase since February of last year’s increase of 13,836.
The rise in August 2012 was 6,183.
Likely reflecting its acquisition of mortgage servicing rights from OneWest Bank, Ocwen Loan Servicing LLC increased its active HAMPs by 19,557 in August to 154,621 — more active permanent modifications than at any other mortgage servicer.
OneWest, on the other hand, dropped by 14,479 active HAMPs to 21,426.
Nationstar Mortgage LLC, which recently reached a deal to buy MSRs from Bank of America, N.A., increased its active permanent modifications by 10,485 to 84,631.
BofA, however, sank by 10,370 active HAMPs to 82,512.
A gain of 1,789 at Select Portfolio Servicing Inc. left its active permanent modifications at 29,776 as of Aug. 31.
At 133,629 active HAMPs, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., was up 789 from July.
CitiMortgage Inc. increased its active HAMPs by 556 to end August at 52,399 active permanent modifications.
JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., lost 737 active HAMPs to finish August at 149,217.
