HUD Hiring Thousands

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan made the disclosure at a HUD summer intern event.

He told the interns that they could not have arrived at a more important time as the housing agency now “literally stands at the forefront of the administration’s response to some of the nation’s biggest challenges.”

Donovan said he was asked to join the agency during the Clinton administration with a professor from his graduate school.

He explained that current population growth estimates indicate an additional 200 billion square feet of homes, office buildings and other construction will be needed during the first half of the 21st century.

Around 6,000 jobs are expected open up during the next few years, according to the secretary.

“There won’t be a lack of opportunities here at HUD,” Donovan stated. “Forty-three percent of the HUD workforce is eligible for retirement as we speak.”
