Two companies have been sued by the state of Missouri over telephone calls to prospective borrowers.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in St. Louis City Circuit Court against First United Mortgage Corp., located in Orlando, Fla., and telemarketer Scorpio Systems Ltd., out of Frisco, Texas, according to an announcement from the state’s attorney general.

Missouri is asking for a temporary restraining order preventing the companies from making calls to people on the state’s No Call list and for an order requiring they pay penalties and state costs.

Since August 2005, the two companies made 146 calls soliciting mortgage refinances to people on the list, the statement said.

“The defendants in this case have ignored our law, and they need to be held accountable,” Attorney General Jay Nixon said in the announcement.

A First United spokesman was not immediately available for a comment.
