National City Mortgage Co. will be offshoring more Ohio jobs.
Several employees at the Miamisburg headquarters were informed yesterday that their jobs will be eliminated, National City spokesman Chris Kemper told MortgageDaily.com. Their work, which consists of back-office functions, will be transferred to India. Like other players in the mortgage industry, the decision is “part of our efforts to remain competitive and better serve our customers,” Kemper said. National City does not divulge specific numbers of job reductions because they do not capture the actual impact, as “our intention is to redeploy as many employees as possible,” the spokesman said. It is likely that at least 50 positions will be outsourced to India because Kemper said he anticipates the relocations will prompt a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing. Ohio requires a WARN filing when at least 50 lose their jobs in a 30-day period at a single site of employment. Employees whose jobs will be displaced may opt for severance or placement in available positions in southwest Ohio or other locations in the company’s footprint. If internal relocations are not made, employees will receive transition benefits, including severance pay and job placement assistance. Affected employees will receive a 60-day notice. Nearly half, or 47 percent, of the workers who requested redeployment in a previous round of offshored jobs to India were accommodated in other jobs at National City, Kemper said. The company declined to say how many jobs were transferred in the first batch of back-office outsourcing disclosed in February, but said those did not trigger a WARN filing.
