St. Louis County is located just outside the city of St. Louis.

Family members told police and reporters that Whitmore worked at a mortgage company, but the name of the firm was not available, Keller said.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that Whitmore had been beaten. Keller said because the investigation is ongoing he could not confirm the report nor reveal the cause of death.

“I can’t get into that,” he said.

But Keller did say police think they know who might have killed Whitmore.

“This is not a big whodunit,” Keller said. “We have a pretty good handle on what happened. We have some things to get in line and because of that, we’re keeping a tight lip.”

Police are waiting for results of DNA testing before making any more statements or an arrest, Keller said.

The DNA results should be in within two to three weeks, he said.

Keller said Whitmore reportedly was at a bar with friends Friday night into early Saturday morning.

“She was with a group, she was not alone,” he said.

She was last seen by her friends while leaving the bar with a man she apparently knew.

A friend reported Whitmore missing about 9 p.m. Saturday night. That same friend discovered Whitmore’s SUV at the shopping center, which is located in Overland, MO.

Police did question the man who left the bar with Whitmore. But he was released and is not considered a suspect, Keller said.

Along with working in the mortgage business Whitmore also worked as a security guard at a roller rink, the paper reported.
