The head of the Housing and Urban Development talked with reporters about a range of issues including additional funding for the Federal Housing Administration, investors complaints about the mortgage servicer settlement and writing down principal on loans owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan talked Sunday with Reuters’ Margaret Chadbourn and the Wall Street Journal‘s Nick Timiraos.

Donovan highlighted how the Obama administration has reduced the number of foreclosures being filed by half since Obama came into office.

“If I have to look at it overall, I think, at one level, the biggest measure that we can have is whether the average American once again has faith that buying a home is something that is a safe investment in the long term,” Donovan stated.
