A handful of mortgage companies have been recognized as being among the best employers in their local communities.
In Baltimore, the Baltimore Sun has designated Linthicum, Md.-based NFM Lending as one of its 2014 Top Workplaces.
An announcement Thursday from NFM said an open-door policy, in-house training and a casual dress code helped it attain the ranking.
It also highlighted how it brings in fresh fruit, houses a pair of rescued cats in the office and promotes volunteer activities.
“It’s simply not enough to be just a place of employment for people.” NFM Lending President Jan Ozga said in the news release. “It’s critical that any great company fosters an environment of respect and opportunity for each individual regardless of their position.”
The Baltimore Sun was one of 40 news publishers across the country to publish results from an employee survey conducted by WorkplaceDynamics LLP.
Guild Mortgage Co. said last month that it was recognized as one of San Diego’s 15 Top Places to Work for the second consecutive year by the Union-Tribune.
Guild employed a U.S. staff of 1,938 as of Sept. 30, including 460 in San Diego.
The San Diego-based firm highlighted its entrepreneurial culture, rapid growth and management team in the announcement.
The Dallas Morning News designated PrimeLending as the No. 8 2014 Top 100 Places to Work. A total of 30 large companies made the cut.
It was the Dallas-based lender’s third year in a row on the list.
PrimeLending additionally said it was recently “Great Rated!” by the Great Place to Work Institute Inc. as part of its participation in the 2015 FORTUNE 100 Best Companies to Work For competition.
PrimeLending employed more than 2,500 people as of February.
The “Best of the Best” Overall Award” in the Metro Detroit’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For was given to United Shore Financial Services LLC, a Sept. 24 statement said.
United Shore said that it offers free valet parking, an on-site Starbucks and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Other amenities include dry cleaning services, a 24-hour convenience store and free soft drinks and coffee.
“Excelling in every category, United Shore was awarded the ‘Best of the Best’ honor by receiving the highest scores in all areas of its human resource practices and by ensuring that everything that is done creates a culture that truly values its greatest asset – its people,” the press release stated.
United Shore President and Chief Executive Officer Mat Ishbia additionally noted that the company has been named a 2014 Top Workplace by the Detroit Free Press and an Inc. 5,000 Fastest-Growing Company.
Headcount at United Shore reportedly stands at 1,200.
Another Michigan mortgage company to be recognized by the Detroit Free Press was Gold Star Mortgage Financial Group Corp., which said in September that it was among 100 firms to make the Michigan’s Top Workplaces of 2014 list.
“Gold Star’s workforce reported great satisfaction in areas including company leadership, communication, career opportunities, working environment and compensation,” the statement said.
