The promotion last month of JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s mortgage chief set in motion two subsequent senior appointments at the home lending unit.
In December, the New York-based company announced that Kevin Watters was named to the post of chief executive officer of card services.
Watters was
promoted from his role as CEO of mortgage banking at Chase, a position he had been in since December 2012, leaving a vacancy.
Taking over the the mortgage CEO post was Mike Weinbach, who was promoted from his job as head of mortgage servicing.
On
Thursday, Chase issued a statement indicating that Peter Muriungi is becoming the new head of servicing.
Muriungi joined Chase in 2013 and most recently served as
head of shared services.
“He played a key role in portfolio sale and acquisition strategies and in the management of investor relationships,” the statement from Chase said.
“He was responsible for the implementation of default mortgage servicing rules under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.”
Muriungi has been in the mortgage business since at least 1998, according to his LinkedIn profile, when he worked at EMC Mortgage Corp. — which was picked up by Chase through its 2008 acquisition of Bear Stearns.
He also spent four years at GMAC Mortgage.
The Dallas resident reportedly earned an MBA from
East Texas Baptist University and a bachelor’s degree in international business from the United States International University in Nairobi, Kenya.
