Several notable appointments have been recently made to the executive ranks of the nation’s mortgage lending industry.

The former deputy director at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Steven L. Antonakes, has been hired as senior vice president and chief compliance officer at Eastern Bank.

Antonakes disclosed his intention to leave the CFPB in July, citing the the commute between Washington and Boston, where his family is. He had been at the bureau since 2010.

Dallas-based Guardian Mortgage Company Inc. issued a July 30 statement indicating that the firm’s president and chief executive officer, Marcia F. Phillips, retired.

Phillips, who held the jobs since 1988, will stay on as vice chairman of the board of directors.

The new president and CEO at Guardian Mortgage is Russell Anderson, a 30-year veteran who has previously been on the payroll of Bank of America, First Union National Bank and Wells Fargo Financial Corp.

“In addition to senior positions in the retail, correspondent and wholesale areas of the mortgage industry, he has significant experience in financing mortgage companies,”
Guardian said of Anderson in the announcement.

Guardian Mortgage reports a $2.7 billion residential loan servicing portfolio.
