SOUTH BEND, Indiana — Police arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly tried to rob a credit union’s mortgage branch office, only to learn that no cash was stored at the location.

Police responded about 9:20 a.m. to the Teacher’s Credit Union office at 823 E. Jefferson Blvd., where employees said a man had come in to the office and demanded cash.

When employees told the man the mortgage office did not have cash, he ran away.

Officers searched the area and found the alleged robber, a 27-year-old man, in an alley between the 1300 and 1400 blocks of East Cedar Street.

He was arrested on suspicion of robbery and resisting law enforcement.
