Dodd Frank Dominating Conferences

A look at the agendas for several mortgage-related conferences uncovers an array of sessions that address the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. A technology conference being held this week in Sin City has a U.S. congressman fielding questions about Dodd Frank.

Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski (D-Pa.) was scheduled to speak Sunday evening at the opening night of the Global Technology Summit 2011 hosted by Global DMS in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino until Wednesday. Kanjorski was expected to spend an hour answering questions about Dodd Frank. Founder and Publisher Sam Garcia will moderate a panel Monday on mortgage fraud prevention at GTS 2011, while Fannie Mae Chief Economist Douglas G. Duncan will speak on the closing night.

The National Association of Mortgage Brokers will hold its 2011 Annual Mid-Year Meeting at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge Hotel in King of Prussia, Pa., on June 4 and June 5.

Two dozen bankruptcy judges from the sixth and seventh circuits will be featured at the American Bankruptcy Institute’s 18th Annual Central States Bankruptcy Workshop from June 9 to June 12 at Michigan’s Grand Traverse Resort and Spa on Lake Michigan. Mortgage issues and bank failures will be among the topics of discussion.

The Washington Marriot Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., is the location of the American Bankers Association’s annual Regulatory Compliance Conference from June 12 through June 15. Issues to be discussed by “experts” during more than 25 sessions include how Dodd Frank impacts mortgage lending, advances in mobile payments and mortgage life cycles.

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency will host workshops for directors of nationally chartered community banks and federal savings associations The $65 workshops reportedly provide practical information to expand skills and understanding of issues facing their banks. One workshop is being held on June 14 and 15 in Louisville, Ky. On June 28 and June 29, another workshop is being held at the Hilton New York.

President George W. Bush is scheduled to give a keynote address on Sept. 13 at the Five Star Default Servicing Conference being held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas.

The 2011 Mortgage Leader Cruise on the Celebrity Millenium launches from Miami on Oct. 13 and continues until the cruise ends on Oct. 17. In addition to making stops in Key West and Cozumel, the cruise promises participants will be informed by “top producers” and “top leaders.”

Patton Boggs LLP has a busy conference schedule, with Partner Michael Waldron participating in a session entitled Dodd-Frank and The New Regulatory Regime at the REThink Symposium hosted by Housing Wire in Pinehurst, N.C. on May 10. Several Patton Boggs partners and attorneys are scheduled to participate in the Legal Issues and Regulatory Compliance Conference 2011 in Boca Raton, Fla., from May 15 until May 18.

Patton Boggs Partner Richard Andreano will be participating in the California Land Title Association 104th Annual Convention in Napa, Calif., on May 23, while Partner Heather Hutchings is scheduled to speak at a session entitled, An Introduction to Dodd-Frank, during the National Notary Association 33rd Annual Conference in Las Vegas on May 25.

At the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Secondary Market Conference & Expo earlier this month in New York, scheduled speakers included Ginnie Mae President Ted Tozer. Sessions included a Dodd Frank discussion and a session on dealing with repurchases.

More than 200 clients attended Financial Industry Computer Systems Inc.’s 25th Annual Users’ Conference. Next year’s event will be held in Dallas from April 11, 2012, through April 13, 2012.
