The number of people reported as employed in mortgage-related positions was down slightly in August.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in its most recent monthly employment report that as of August, people working in the Real Estate Credit category total 308,800. The non-seasonally adjusted figures represent a decrease from the prior month’s 311,400, but an increase from last year’s 269,500.

The “Mortgage and Nonmortgage Loan Brokers” category employee numbers increased to 113,300 from 111,800 the prior month — which was reported non-seasonally adjusted employment numbers for “Production Workers,” whereas this month’s figures represent “All Employees.” A year ago, this sector stood at 85,000, according to the report.

The overall unemployment for September remained at 6.1% or 9 million people, the Bureau, a division of the U.S. Department of Labor, reported. Meanwhile, temporary help services maintained their upward trend and manufacturing jobs continued to decline at a slower rate.
