New HUD Secretary ConfirmedSenate confirms Shaun Donovan

President Obama’s nomination to head the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has been confirmed.

The U.S. Senate confirmed Shaun L. S. Donovan as HUD secretary yesterday, according to a journal of confirmations released Thursday.Obama originally announced Donovan as his choice for the post last month in a radio address.

Donovan’s most recent job was as commissioner of New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development. He was appointed to that position by New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in March 2004.

Prior to his stint for the Big Apple, Donovan worked at Prudential Mortgage Capital Co. as managing director of its FHA lending and affordable housing investments.

He also served as acting FHA Commissioner during a prior presidential transition.

He replaces outgoing HUD Secretary Steven C. Preston, who was confirmed in June 2008.
