Banks Shuffle Executives

Mortgage News

A number of senior executive appointments were recently made by the nation’s financial institutions. Among the latest appointments were a chief financial officer, a chief executive officer and three women.

The new regional chairman for U.S. Bank in San Diego is Robert B. Horsman, the company said this month. Horsman was a founder, the former president and former CEO of failed San Diego National Bank, which was acquired by U.S. Bank, N.A., from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation on Oct. 30.

In addition, U.S. Bank named Jim Wening as the new market president in San Diego.

John Manning was appointed by Wells Fargo & Co. to head the commercial banking division for the greater Los Angeles area. The 23-year financial services veteran has worked for Wells for 15 years.

Park View Federal Savings announced this month the appointment of James Nicholson to CFO. The 25-year bank veteran was previously Akron regional chief operating officer for Huntington Bank and president and CEO of Unizan Bank, N.A.

A new director at Astoria Financial Corp. and subsidiary Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association is John R. Chrin, who will join the board on Dec. 16, a press release last week said. Chrin, who replaces retiring Leo J. Waters, is Global Financial Services Executive-in-Residence and Financial Services Laboratory Fellow at Lehigh University’s College of Business & Economics and previously worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co.

In September, Hattiesburg, Miss.-based Magnolia State Bank reported that it brought in Marcus Robinson to replace Thomas Brown — who had served as president and CEO for 30 years. Brown, however, will stay on as chairman.

Robinson, who started in banking during 1984, reportedly worked with Regions Bank before taking the job with Magnolia. He was also elected to the board of directors.

Over at Princeton National Bancorp Inc., in Princeton, Ill., Tony J. Sorcic will retire as president and CEO — a job he held since 1995 — according to a Nov. 16 statement. The board is expected to announce a new president soon.

Among several women appointed to executive positions was Canda Olmi, who was hired as senior vice president by Magnolia State Bank, an October announcement indicated. Olmi reportedly has 24 years’ banking experience, including 12 years as president of the mortgage division of the national banking association of The First.

Park View, based in Solon, Ohio, announced that Jane Grebenc was hired as executive vice president of retail banking. Her 25-year career included much time at national City Bank.

Susan Nelson was named senior vice president – national sales director at HSA Bank, a Nov. 18 announcement indicated. Nelson’s prior background was in health care.
