Many of the hundreds of currently open positions at mortgage-related firms are at companies that have been recognized as some of the best employers in their cities. Jobs are available in origination, production and technology.
Waterstone Mortgage Corp. has been aggressively recruiting new employees, with 35 employees added to its staff in May, according to a news release.
The Pewaukee, Wis.-based firm, which reported headcount of 600 as of January, reported that 25 people were hired in April, while 19 employees were recruited in March. (Waterstone Mortgage careers)
More than 160 employees are being added to the staff of ELM Services LLC in Overland Park, Kan., the Overland Park Chamber Economic Development Council said last month. Elm says it provides consulting and outsourced process management to mortgage servicers.
“Overland Park is the perfect centralized location to expand and grow our business,” ELM Services President and Chief Executive Officer Erika Larson said in a statement. “Even though our physical location is in Kansas, our market is nationwide. Over 200 technology jobs are available at Quicken Loans Inc., a news release last month stated. Employment prospects are sure to be impressed by the lender’s No. 1 ranking on Computerworld magazine’s 2013 Best Places to Work in IT list. It was the fourth top ranking on Computerworld’s list and the ninth consecutive time Quicken has appeared on the list.
Computerworld reportedly based its ranking on an employee survey that addressed benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.
“Quicken Loans invests heavily in training for all of our team members to ensure they have the skills they need to grow personally and professionally,” Quicken Loans Chief Information Officer Linglong He said in the statement. “But we also empower our team to both innovate and create the processes and programs that will continue to drive the company’s growth.” (Quicken Loans careers)
Plain Dealer’s ‘Top Workplace’ list, according to a June 17 statement from the Detroit-based lender. It was the second time around for the online lender.
The ranking was based on a Workplace Dynamics LLP survey.
Quicken, which employs 450 people in Downtown Cleveland, said the office specializes in mortgages guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
“Team members work in a unique, bright and colorful environment which includes TVs, video games, and an abundance of whiteboard space for brainstorming and idea generation,” the statement said. “The Cleveland Web Center also includes a ‘Wall of Honor,’ that displays pictures of Quicken Loans’ clients who have served our country.”
Churchill Mortgage, which finished the first quarter with 319 employees, said Monday that it was recognized as a “Top Workplace” by The Tennessean. The designation was reportedly based on positive employee responses to another survey conducted by Workplace Dynamics.
The statement indicated that 70 employees have been hired so far this year, including 13 people in Michigan, Tennessee and Texas.
Last month, Brentwood, Tenn.-based Churchill announced that it is recruiting employees for branches in California, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. Among the openings are loan originators, processors and underwriters as well as other production positions and secondary marketing jobs.

In San Ramon, Calif., Commerce Mortgage said in June that it was selected by The Bay Area News Group as one of The Bay Area News Group’s Top Workplaces for 2013. Commerce says that its staff s comprised of men and women from a variety of diverse backgrounds. A recent fitness campaign reportedly resulted it the staff collectively losing a thousand pounds.
Commerce, which previously operated as Bank of Commerce Mortgage, operates a branch recruiting business.
The National Association For Business Resources selected Equity Loans LLC as one of Atlanta’s Best and Brightest Companies to Work For, a news release in May said. The Atlanta-based firm said its commitment to excellence in human resource practices and employee enrichment were behind the designation. An independent research firm reportedly evaluated Equity Loans based on its shared vision, work-life balance, employee education, community initiatives and employee retention.
In an effort to grow its loan portfolio, Texas Capital Bank has added more than 150 North Texas employees during the past two years, including 67 so far during 2013, the Dallas Morning News reported. The bank recruits loan officers from competitors to gain their base of customers.
An improving real estate market has Bank of Oklahoma Mortgage Group adding seven loan originators in Wichita, Kan., The Wichita Eagle reported in June.
