GMAC Sub: Avoid Brokersditech.com TV commercial says “deal direct”

Prospective borrowers could save thousands by avoiding mortgage brokers, according to a GMAC subsidiary.

In a television commercial aired on CNN today, ditech.com advises subprime homeowners, “Don’t end up paying unreasonable points and fees to a broker.”

ditech.com has become known for knocking bankers — with TV commercials featuring a now-familiar clumsy banker who can’t even convince his own mother to get a mortgage from his bank.

The Costa Mesa, Calif.-based lender’s anti-broker commercial was far less comical than the anti-banker ad, with a serious, professional-sounding woman speaking.

ditech.com sister companies, Homecomings Financial and GMAC Residential Funding, originate loans from mortgage brokers and bankers.

General Motors, which saw its bonds downgraded to junk status recently by Standard & Poor’s, earlier this month announced that ditech.com parent, GMAC Mortgage, was capitalized and restructured under the name Residential Capital Corp. GM made the move in an apparent attempt to distance the mortgage operations — and the associated cost of funds — from the dismal earnings expected for GM.

The woman continues in her dialogue about avoiding brokers — noting borrowers could “deal direct, and save thousands by calling or logging on to ditech.com.”

“ditech will also guaranty you the lowest rate and fees,” the commercial went on.
