The president and chief executive officer of a thriving mortgage banker has been locally recognized as the entrepreneur of the year in the financial services industry.
Mary Ann McGarry joined Guild Mortgage Co. in 1984 as an audit supervisor. Within three years she was promoted to senior vice president.
By 1988, McGarry was elected to the San Diego-based company’s board of directors.
During her Guild career she served as chief production operations officer, chief financial officer and chief operating officer.
Today, McGarry serves as president and CEO of Guild — which has grown mortgage originations from less than $7 billion in 2013 to an annual pace of more than $11 billion based on first-quarter 2015 business.
On Wednesday, the lender issued an announcement
indicating that McGarry received the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2015 Award for San Diego and Imperial Counties in the financial services category.
Anyone can nominate an entrepreneur for the designation, and EY doesn’t require that submissions be made by clients. There is no cost to nominate.
EY said regional and independent panels of judges include entrepreneurs and prominent leaders from academia, business and the media.
Winners of the award are honored during November at the Strategic Growth Forum in Palm Springs, California.
“The award program, founded and produced by EY, recognizes entrepreneurs and business leaders who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in areas such as innovation, financial performance and commitment to their business and communities,” the announcement said. “An independent judging panel, comprised of previous winners of the award, selected the winning entrepreneurs in six categories.”
For her part, McGarry credit management team strength for the company’s success.
