Active HAMP Book Expands

Government supported loan modifications that have been completed and are still active grew despite declines at three major financial institutions.

Permanent loan modifications completed through the Home Affordable Modification Program and still active numbered 939,008 as of February.

That was according to Obama administration data released as part of a monthly report on the health of the U.S. housing market.

Active HAMPs grew by 5,108 from January, slowing from the 7,108 increase in the prior report and the 6,482 rise in the year-earlier report.


The biggest gain between January and February was made by Select Portfolio Servicing Inc., where active permanent modifications increased by 2,295 to 38,694.

No. 2 Ocwen Loan Servicing LLC finished February with 185,549 active HAMPs, a gain of 1,327 over the previous month.

At Nationstar Mortgage LLC, permanent modifications rose by 1,197 to 93,107.

Wells Fargo Bank, N.A., followed, increasing by 1,127 active permanent modifications to 140,764.

Bank of America, N.A.; CitiMortgage Inc.; and JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A., all had declines in active HAMPs from January.
