Some of the biggest names in mortgage banking traveled to Washington Tuesday to discuss the future of real estate finance and what role the U.S. government should have in the mortgage market.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was the opening speaker at the event, which is being held at the Department of the Treasury. Following Geithner’s opening remarks, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan gave his own presentation.

In addition to several scholars, Bank of America Home Loans President Barbara J. Desoer and PIMCO Co-founder and Co-chief Investment Officer Bill Gross were among panelists in the morning session.

Geithner was the moderator of the morning session.
