President Bush’s nominee for the federal housing commissioner post has been sworn in.
HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson swore in Brian D. Montgomery as the new assistant secretary for housing on Tuesday, according to an announcement from the housing agency.
The U.S. Senate confirmed Montgomery’s nomination last week.
The University of Houston graduate, who replaced former FHA commissioner John Weicher, served as the deputy assistant to the president and cabinet secretary from January 2003 to April 2005, the announcement said, and as director of presidential advance from 2001 until 2003.
“As Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner, Montgomery will be responsible for overseeing the $500 billion Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insurance portfolio,” HUD said in the announcement. Additionally, he’ll oversee regulatory responsibilities for RESPA, the housing mission of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and manufactured housing.
