It has been more than a half-decade since the issuance of mortgage-backed securities on behalf of the Government National Mortgage Association has been this high.
In April, $42.340 billion in Ginnie Mae MBS were issued, according to monthly data provided by the Washington-based company.
The last time monthly volume was this high was in
December 2009, when issuance totaled $42.446 billion.
Issuance was $32.068 billion in March 2015 and $23.318 billion in April 2014.
Residential securitizations accounted for $40.553 billion of last month’s activity, leaping from $30.659 billion a month earlier and $21.661 billion a year earlier.
Jumbo issuance climbed to $1.719 billion from $1.592 billion in March.
Issuance of home-equity conversion mortgage MBS moved up to $0.798 billion from $0.660 billion in March.
Ginnie’s multifamily issuance rose to $1.787 billion in April from $1.409 billion
the prior month and $1.657 billion
the same month the prior year.
