Annual originations improved by more than two-thirds at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corp. Two Massachusetts branches were credited with originating more than $0.4 billion.
Mortgage production at the Sun Prairie Wis.-based company was $3.3 billion last year, according to an announcement today.
Business shot up from $1.97 billion during 2008, 14-year-old Fairway said.
Growth was strongest in New England, where volume increased to $720 million in 2009 from $295 million a year earlier. The 900-employee company noted that a large share of the region’s activity was in Massachusetts.
Massachusetts has consistently been among the busiest states in the Mortech-MortgageDaily.com Mortgage Market Index.
Fairway Chief Executive Officer Steve Jacobsen credited six New England branch managers with leading the region higher. One in particular — Amy Tierce of Needham, Mass. — was recognized for $226 million in originations. Close behind was Dan Ventura, whose Newburyport, Mass., branch closed $198 million.
