Issuance of mortgage-backed securities at the Government National Mortgage Association retreated from a record July.
Ginnie Mae issuance was $44.73 billion during August, a news release yesterday said. Volume was down from around $45.57 billion in July — Ginnie’s record.
In August 2008, issuance was $29 billion.
Ginnie Mae I single-family pools accounted for $25.2 billion of August activity, according to the report. Ginnie Mae II single-family pools were nearly $19 billion.
Multifamily issuance last month was $0.52 billion, the Washington, D.C.-based firm said.
From Jan. 1 to Aug. 31, MBS issuance totaled $297 billion compared to $162 billion during the same period last year.
