For two months in a row, an increase in government-sponsored enterprise refinances was led by the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp.
Primary mortgage originators refinanced
146,664 home loans that are backed or owned by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac in November.
Refinance volume climbed ahead of the previous month, when the number of GSE mortgages that were refinanced amounted to 145,022.
The report from the regulator and conservator of the to government-controlled entities, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, indicates that activity also escalated in October.
There were even more refinances this past November than during the same month in 2014, a month that saw 134,582 GSE refinances.
Refinances of Fannie loans were 85,289, slipping from 86,073 in October.
But refinances of Freddie loans accelerated to 61,375 in November from 58,949.
The Home Affordable Refinance Program was utilized to refinance 7,446 GSE mortgages during the most-recent month.
HARP volume fell from 7,755 in October and sank from 12,492 in November 2014.
A month-over-month HARP decline was reported for both Washington-based Fannie and McLean, Virginia-based Freddie.
