A new procedure being considered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development would ease requirements for completing the construction of manufactured housing at the property site.
HUD disclosed the plans today to establish a procedure for completing the construction of manufactured housing on-site.
HUD currently requires manufacturers to obtain approval for each design in order to complete construction at the installation site.
“This rule would simplify the process, by establishing uniform procedures by which manufacturers could complete construction of their homes at the installation site without obtaining advance approval from HUD,” the agency stated.
Only homes that are subject to the Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards would qualify for the new procedure.
It would not, however, apply to the installation of the homes or to manufactured homes where a major section is constructed on-site.
HUD is accepting comments on the proposed rule until Aug. 23.
