Despite a month-over-month decline in the volume of permanent loan modifications completed, activity accelerated from a year earlier.
For the month of July, mortgage servicers and their service providers completed loan modifications on a total of 34,815 residential loans.
The total included mortgages that were modified through proprietary programs and through the Home Affordable Modification program.
HOPE NOW reported the data.
Volume slowed from the previous month, when 41,872 modifications were completed.
HOPE NOW previously reported 33,168 modifications completed during the same month last year.
The most-recent month included 22,734 proprietary loan modifications, fewer than 25,864 in June.
Proprietary activity was also off from July 2015, when 24,007 modifications were completed.
HAMP volume accounted for
12,081 permanent modifications during July 2016.
Activity slowed from 16,008 a month earlier but was well ahead of 9,734 previously reported for a year earlier.
Since
HAMP tracking began in December 2009, there have been 1,633,817 loan modifications completed through the program.
