X-Lover Brutally Slays Originator
Lisa Suthard remembered fondly by coworkers May 23, 2005 By PATRICK CROWLEY |
Stephanie Frey and Emily Vaughn felt like they were learning the mortgage lending business from one of the best. But instead of soaking up the wisdom of K Bank mortgage loan officer Lisa Suthard, they are mourning her loss.
In a horrific crime Suthard, 46, and Frank Cannatelli, also 46, recently died after being shot and set afire in the bedroom of her Sussex County, Delaware, home by Suthard’s ex-fiancé. “It’s just so sad, she was very smart and very easy to work with,” Frey told MortgageDaily.com. “We can’t believe this has happened. No one can believe it.” “Everybody liked her,” Vaughn said during the interview. “She knew this business and she was very good at training us.” Delaware State Police say Robert Wynn, 34, killed the couple and then drove about 40 miles to nearby Maryland, where he shot and killed himself in a rural area. Wynn and Suthard had broken up about six months ago, Delaware State Police Cpl. Jeff Oldham told MortgageDaily.com. Suthard had filed a domestic violence report in December against Wynn, but he was not charged at the time and he was not under a court order to stay away from her, Oldham said. Before breaking up Wynn and Suthard had been together for six years, Oldham said. “We’re not sure what caused this to happen,” he said. Oldham said Wynn entered Suthard’s Harbeson, Del., home at about 4 a.m. through a sliding glass door. He encountered Suthard’s 13-year-old daughter and her friend, but he did not harm them. “He told them if they wanted to live they should get out,” Oldham said. “At least he let them live.” Wynn went into Suthard’s bedroom and shot her and Cannatelli with a .40-caliber Beretta handgun. He then doused the room with gasoline and set it on fire, Oldham said. An autopsy revealed that both died from the combination of Wynn’s bullets and the fire. Investigators believe Suthard was still alive when the fire was set, Oldham said. Back at K Bank in Lewes, Del., manager Julie Brown said Suthard will be remembered as a hard worker and a successful mortgage lender that got along with coworkers and satisfied customers. “She was a good originator,” Brown said. “She knew how to work with people and she knew the business, so she could find loans suited to her customer’s needs. “Lisa liked what she was doing,” Brown said, “and she was good at it.” |
